German Postal Workers Strike

German postal workers began limited strikes in various areas in the country to push for a 6.5% pay raise, said published reports.

About 200 employees of the national postal service Deutsche Post AG walked off their shift in Hamburg, Germany, and at least two other locations followed suit. The walk outs disrupted mail delivery.

The actions followed strikes by factory workers last month. A strike among construction workers is expected in mid-June.

The postal union has called for more walkouts, which generally last a few hours, this week as contract negotiations begin for Deutsche Post’s 240,000 postal employees.
