Facebook is turning its ear to its users in order to show them more relevant ads. According to a post from Hong Ge, the social network’s engineering manager of News Feed Ads, the company is “working on some updates to the ads algorithm to improve the relevance and quality of the ads people see.”
Ge explains that when a user visits their News Feed, Facebook sifts through thousands of ads and selects the best ones to show based on information like their interests and Pages they like. Marketers try to best target the users who will be interested in their ads and indicate how much they’re willing to pay to show their ads to those users. Users, on the other hand, tell Facebook about the ads they want and don’t want to see by interacting with ads
