DLJ Merchant Banking Partners, an affiliate of New York-based Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, will acquire Advanstar Inc., a trade show, publishing, and marketing services firm. The $900 million purchase price will be paid in cash and other securities. The transaction is expected to close in September or October.
Advanstar publishes 103 business magazines, produces more than 100 exhibitions and conferences, operates 79 Web sites and provides direct mail and marketing services to 19 industries, including travel and hospitality, specialty retail, healthcare, manufacturing and processing. The company had 1999 sales of 328 million.
