I just read your article “Gore Org Nets GOP.com” (DIRECT, Nov. 1). I think you’re not in tune to what’s happening in America at this very moment…maybe even as your magazine was being printed.
Your saying that these arrogant spin sites put up by the Democratic party have put one over on the GOP – using the Internet to achieve political gain – is exactly the stuff people are getting sick and tired of hearing. For a direct marketing organ, you’re really out of touch. I believe the general population of the United States has seen these nasty tactics just one time too often. In fact, I think there is an anger sweeping the land.
These kinds of careless attacks started when it became necessary to save good old alley cat Bill from impeachment. [The Democrats] purposely smeared individual citizens who simply said [Clinton] shouldn’t have lied under oath or abused a government intern on federal property in the same stroke of the cigar.
During this same time period, the Democratic Party stayed silent, openly tolerating corporations like Hustler magazine and Salon.com [as they] smeared more American citizens. They all had a big party, and thought no one was watching, throwing coffee on the walls of the White House and renting out its rooms to the highest bidders. I don’t think Americans knew what to think about it, and stayed silent, trying not to believe that a party and president were sticking it to them. But now the vote is coming in.
People are finally realizing that you’d better not get in the way of the mean-spirited spin-and-sin machine of the Democratic Party. It’s sad that the Grand Old Party that wanted change in the days of Eugene McCarthy and withstood the riots of Chicago, has lost its direction and purpose – protecting America’s values and heritage.
