Coldwater Creek Wraps Up Banner Third Quarter

Women’s outfitter Coldwater Creek generated $15.9 million in third-quarter income, up from $10.5 million in income during third-quarter 2005. The company’s net sales rose from $186.8 million a year ago to $256.4 million, in part due to a jump in the total number of stores. The Sandpoint, ID-based marketer currently runs 225 premium retail outlets, up from 163 at the end of third-quarter 2005. The quarter ended Oct. 28.

Direct sales for Coldwater Creek amounted to $88.8 million, up from $73.7 million a year ago. While catalog sales rose 7.1%, from $27.4 million to $29.4 million, Internet sales boomed, jumping from $46.2 million to $59.5 million.

Retail sales, in part due to the new stores, jumped from $113.2 million to $167.5 million.

For the first nine months of 2006, the company’s total sales were $688.1 million, up from $495.7 million a year ago, and its net income was $39.5 million, up from $25.2 million. Direct sales rose from $204.3 million to $248.1 million, with catalog increasing from $78.7 million to $83.2 million, and online revenue jumping from $125.6 million to $164.9 million.
