BabyUniverse Inc. announced on Monday that its board of directors has begun to explore ways to enhance shareholder value including the possible sale of BabyUniverse or even the acquisition of another company.
Net second quarter sales reported for the second quarter totaled $8.5 million, compared to $5.3 million in the second quarter of 2005, an increase of more than 61%. However, the company reported a net loss of $1.2 million in the second quarter, compared to net loss of $322,153 for second quarter last year.
The online marketer said the loss it reported was related to restructuring and other expenses related to its recent acquisition of ePregancy.com and ePregnancy Magazine.
In other news, BabyUniverse recently expanded its relationship to offer products on Amazon.com. Prior to July 1 exclusive contracts that Amazon.com had with other companies limited BabyUniverse’s ability to offer products on Amazon.com.
