Anheuser-Busch Nabs Naming-Rights Deal

Anheuser-Busch announced yesterday that is has extended its long-term marketing agreement with the Major League Baseball St. Louis Cardinals for another 20 years, and has added naming rights to the team’s new stadium, which opens in 2006. Terms of the deal were not released.

The agreement provides Anheuser-Busch with exclusive alcohol beverage sponsorship on all Cardinals radio and TV broadcasts, promotions, use of the team logo, and stadium signage, including naming rights for the new stadium.

The Cardinals have played in ballparks known as Busch Stadium for more than 50 years. However, Anheuser-Busch was the owner of the team since 1953, bought that team’s ballpark the same year, and was instrumental in building the second Busch Stadium in 1966. When Anheuser-Busch sold the Cardinals in 1995, the brewer and the ball club agreed to a marketing relationship that included naming rights.

Anheuser-Busch is an official sponsor of Major League Baseball and sponsors 24 Major League teams based in the United States, including the Cardinals.
