Amazon.com Sees Revenue, Income Boost in First Quarter

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Amazon.com generated $3.02 billion in sales during first quarter 2007, up from $2.28 billion a year ago. The online retailer attributed $84 million of the gain to favorable foreign currency exchanges. The company’s net income rose from $51 million to $111 million during the same period. The quarter ended March 31.

While the company’s growth cut across all divisions, international sales — a category that comprises the German, French, Japanese and Chinese sites — rose faster than those in North American markets.

Amazon also shipped more of its order to customers enrolled in its Amazon Prime membership program. Under the terms of the program, members get unlimited two-day shipping, or overnight shipping for $3.99, on a large swath of merchandise. The company also reported higher enrollment in Amazon Prime, although it did not release enrollment figures.
