Amazon.com Plans North Dakota Expansion, Closure

Amazon.com plans to expand its Grand Forks, ND call center and close its warehouse in the city, according to wire service reports.

Company spokeswoman Patty Smith said the expansion would create about 60 jobs while the warehouse closing will eliminate about 50 jobs.

Amazon.com came to Grand Forks in 1999, when it bought the catalog division of Acme Electric, a local hardware store.

The Seattle-based Internet retailer had about 400 workers locally, more than half in customer service.
