Amazon.com and Sprint Offer Shopping by Wireless Web Phone

Online retailer Amazon.com and Sprint PCS Wireless Web service will offer online shopping at Amazon.com from Sprint telephones.

By using an Internet-ready Sprint PCS phone, registered Amazon.com customers can purchase any item sold directly by the online retailer by selecting Amazon.com from the phone’s MiniBrowser menu. Customers can also open accounts with Amazon.com directly from the phone.

The partnership is part of Amazon.com’s Anywhere initiative offering customers the ability to “find, discover, and buy anything online, at anytime, from anywhere.”

Sprint PCS, which launched its wireless Web service in late September, also offers customer the ability to trade stocks online, browse select Internet-based content in real time, receive automatic personalized news features, weather, stock quotes, and e-mail updates, and connect to the Internet or corporate Intranet by using the phone in place of a modem.
