Allied Domecq has agreed to a $14.2 billion takeover offer from rival Pernod Ricard SA that will in turn sell some popular brands to Fortune Brands, Inc. However, on Monday, Constellation Brands—whose portfolio includes Hardys wine and Corona beer—was reported to be considering a possible counter-bid to the deal, according to news reports.
French beverage group Pernod’s product line includes Martell cognac and Jackob’s Creek wine. Fortune, the maker of Jim Beam whiskey and Absolut vodka, is based in the U.S. and is a liquor, sports equipment and household products company.
