WNBA Unveils Affinity Cards for Fans
The Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) has teamed up with Discover Card to offer fans WNBA and team affinity credit cards that give them access to designated lounges located in arenas throughout the season.
The Discover Card Fan Lounges feature music, games, food and beverages, prizes, player appearances and more. Fans sign up for the card at select WNBA games and show them to gain access to the Lounge.
“The Discover Card Fan Lounges are off to fantastic start with capacity crowds in several cities,” said Molly Mullady, WNBA’s VP-business development. “What is most exciting is the reaction from fans that now have an opportunity to meet not only players from the team in their own market, but star players from opposing teams as well.”
The credit cards are designed for the WNBA and the league’s 14 teams.
“WNBA fans are passionate about the league and this exciting new offering from Discover gives our fans a unique and meaningful way to deepen their connection to our teams, players and game,” said WNBA President Donna Orender in a statement.
In-arena signage and a rotational billboard in New York City’s Times Square supports through the end of the month.
As the first partner in the 10-year history of the WNBA to have its logo displayed on the court, the Discover Card mark appeared on the court during WNBA games televised nationally on ESPN2 and ABC throughout the regular season.
The WNBA joins a growing number of sports leagues and their teams that have begun loyalty programs in recent times including the WNBA’s LA Sparks (PROMO P&I Aug. 9, 2006).
