Verizon to Close Four Call Centers Acquired From MCI

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Verizon Communications Inc. plans to lay off more than 1,660 telemarketers and close four call centers that it acquired in January from MCI, according to wire service reports. The job losses will be in Iowa, Texas and South Carolina.

The centers slated for closure handled outbound telemarketing for new customer acquisition and inbound customer service.

The cuts planned in June are part of post merger plans to reduce costs, as the company refocuses on offering broadband, wireless and contract services for large business and the federal government.
