Vaseline Vaunts Skin Campaign with Athletes, Sweeps

The makers of Vaseline are driving a campaign for a new line of men’s skin lotions with star baseball and football players as spokespersons, and a sweepstakes.

TV spots for Vaseline Men on ESPN, and ads in ESPN the Magazine and on the sport’s network’s Web site will feature Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Chase Utley and former New York Giants defensive lineman Michael Strahan. The two athletes will be shown using the new lotion in their daily workout regimens.

Fans will be able to see vignettes of the two athletes online, where they can also register for a sweepstakes Vaseline is running through Dec. 31.

The grand prizes in the “Prepping for Peak Performance” sweeps is a shot at attending a fantasy baseball or football camp for free, an HDTV and Vaseline skin care products. Weekly winners randomly selected from those who register on the site can also win autographed merchandise, such as footballs from Strahan.

“Skin is just another part of my body that I want to keep strong. With my body strong and ready, I can perform my best on the playing field,” Utley said, in a statement.

The new product line includes Vaseline Men Fast Absorbing Body & Face Lotion, a hand lotion and a hydrating body and facial soap.
