Last Sunday the U.S. Postal Service began implementing a rule change that it says will speed up the processing and delivery of Standard A and B (advertising) Mail: standing appointments mailers had to enter their mail at Destination Delivery Units (DDU’s) have been changed to once a week from once a month.
Postal officials citing an increase in the amount of Standard B Mail being entered at the wrong DDU, or mailers failing to keep previously scheduled appointments, said the new rule permits Standard B Mail to be redirected to a postal facility other than the one chosen by the mailer.
At the same time the USPS is requiring mailers to provide mail acceptance personnel with the five-digit Zip code of their mailings destination before their scheduled appointment. Both moves, postal officials said, will lead to faster processing and delivery.
