The Interpublic Group of New York City acquired The Gillespie Organization, Lawrenceville, NJ, which has expertise in integrated marketing communications and relationship marketing. Gillespie will retain its current name and operate as a separate unit reporting to Interpublic’s McCann-Erickson WorldGroup.

Founded by Dick Gillespie in 1973, the agency has more than $140 million in capitalized billings, making it one of the largest direct marketers in the country. The firm has grown 25 percent in the last year, adding clients such as Cushman & Wakefield, Elizabeth Arden Red Door Salons, and Keystone Bank.

“We were never for sale, but the offers kept coming,” says Gillespie, who remains president and ceo. He adds: “The Interpublic and McCann-Erickson alliance makes great sense because it will help us meet our long-term agency goals more quickly.”
