The Senate Governmental Affairs Committee has rescheduled its hearing on the final report from the President’s Commission on the U.S. Postal Service for Wednesday, Sept.17.
Senators will hear testimony from Commission co-chairs James A. Johnson and Harry Pearce.
This hearing was originally slated for Sept. 3 but was reportedly postponed because one of the chairs was sick. This spawned some speculation in the industry that the whole issue of postal reform may yet again be put on hold. But Edward Gleiman, consultant to the Direct Marketing Association quickly disputed this theory.
“These are complex issues and they take a long time to discuss and understand,” he said.
Gleiman expressed hope that Committee Chairman Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) and other members of Congress might use the Commission’s findings to introduce a postal reform bill in Congress soon.
