Ads from the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism have been yanked from New York subways after officials said the creative promoted unsafe behavior.
The ads portray scenes that are supposed to playfully allow commuters to sit back and dream about wonderful vacations. In one ad, “Instant Escape No. 2: How to Fly Fish with a Scarf and a Cell Phone,” riders are shown how to use their cell phones and a scarf to fish for trash on the tracks. Another ad, “How to Turn a Subway Seat into a Hammock,” shows a person lounging across several seats, the Associated Press reported.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority does not allow riders to place their feet or bags on an empty seat, let alone drape themselves across several seats.
CBS Outdoor distributed the ads and a rep said that they would be replaced. The ads appear in about 25% of the city’s 6,210 subway cars, the report said.
