NHL Names Marketing Head

The National Hockey League has named John Collins as executive-VP, corporate sales and marketing.

Collins will lead the NHL’s corporate sales efforts in the U.S, focusing on development of new revenue opportunities, partner management and sales coordination with League network partners. Collins also will oversee all aspects of the NHL’s marketing plan development and implementation, the NHL said.

Most recently, Collins worked as president and CEO of the Cleveland Browns where he was responsible for the club’s business and directed the development, strategic planning and implementation of organizational goals and objectives.

Collins came to the Browns from the NFL’s League office where, beginning in 1989, he held several key executive positions. His last role at the NFL was as senior-VP, sales and marketing where he oversaw various aspects of NFL business including advertising and design, database, research, media planning, corporate sponsorship and advertising sales, among others. Collins also was a member of the team that launched the league’s TV network called the NFL Network.

“John’s experience in identifying and packaging saleable assets will play an important role in our ongoing efforts to maximize our value in the corporate community and to broaden our reach to new audiences,” said Ed Horne, president, NHL Enterprises, in a statement.
