NBTY Inc. reported a sales decline for its direct response and Vitamin World operations for the two-months ended May 31.
The vitamin marketer reported direct marketing sales of $38 million for the period, off 12% from $43 million last year.
The Bohemia, NY company reported retail sales of $36 million, off 1% from last year.
The firm reported total sales of $271 million, up 34% from $202 million last year, thanks to a 94% increase in the U.S. wholesale nutrition sales to $116 million and a 29% improvement in European retail revenue to $81 million.
“While this slowdown in sales will effect our overall results for the fiscal third quarter of 2004, we remain optimistic for the long-term,” said CEO Scott Rudolph in a statement.
