McDonald’s Brings “Passport to Play” to Schools

McDonald’s Corp. targets school kids with a physical education program rolling into 31,000 schools this fall.

“Passport to Play” gives phys ed teachers a curriculum based on games from other countries. Kids in grades 3-5 get a passport to track their participation in the program; passports are stamped each time they play a game from another country. Teachers’ kits include lessons about the countries, too. “It’s like Social Studies meets P.E.,” said McDonald’s spokesperson Heather Oldani. Oak Brook, IL-based McDonald’s worked with Kaleidoscope Education Support Group, Charleston, SC, helped develop the curriculum.

McDonald’s supports the national program with special gym classes led by Ronald McDonald and local Olympic athletes in 48 markets (96 schools in all), from Sept. 13 through Oct. 7. GMR Marketing, New Berlin, WI, handles.
