For the first time in 20 years, the Licensing International Expo will be getting a new home, at least temporarily.
The annual trade show, which covers the licensing industry, will host its 2009 event June 2-4 at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas, NV. It been held at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City since 1986, LIMA said.
The International Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association (LIMA), a sponsor of the show, said it is supporting Advanstar’s decision to relocate the event, which is run by Advanstar. The expo’s location had been debated over the past several months, LIMA said.
“Our board of directors felt that relocating the show to Las Vegas is in the best interest of our industry, “Charles Riotto, the president of LIMA, said in a statement. “The move will ultimately provide greater growth opportunities for the show and enable us to expand in new directions to include more of the categories our industry represents.”
The Las Vegas move is good for one year. Advanstar will review the show’s success before it makes the show’s location permanent, LIMA said.
This year’s Licensing International Expo is scheduled for June 10-12 at Javits Center in New York.
