In Japan, nearly all of the cases of Internet false advertising involving health or medical goods were resolved following e-mail warnings, the Kyodo News Service reported.
The Tokyo metropolitan government said 96% of the cases were taken care of in this way. Eight Internet service providers, including Yahoo Japan Corp., working with Tokyo officials who monitor Web sites, sent guidance e-mails to online advertisers of these products.
Some 72 ads were found to be in violation of the law. They are companies advertising drugs, cosmetics, health foods and health and beauty devices. After receiving the guidelines, 70% of the ads were categorized as improved and 26% were listed as suspended or terminated.
