Identity Theft Concerns Curtail Phone Orders, Not Online Shopping

A new study commissioned by Dallas-based Intervoice Inc., conducted by the market research firm TNS, found that despite concerns about identity theft 60% consumers are unwilling to limit online shopping to decrease risk.

Technology causes the most concern to consumers with respect to identity theft risk, particularly among those 60 and older. About 20% of consumers said they have stopped making purchases by telephone due to concerns about identity theft.

The survey also found that 40% of consumers favor the use of a national identification card as a means of protection against identify theft.
