Designing Woman Futurist Faith Popcorn has never been our favorite prognosticator. She does, however, earn our respect for being the only consultant we know of who’s invested in her own predictions.
Popcorn’s latest trend is marketing to women from a woman’s point of view, a practice she recommends in her new book, “EVEolution.” Popcorn’s faith in her predictions has led her to introduce a line of furniture for women: the Home Office Cocoon Collection.
Manufactured by Hooker, the line consists of two desk and storage sets suitable for both office or kitchen. Essentially, space for a “computer center” is provided with the “look” of a hutch.
Among the so-called woman-friendly features of the designs are locking compartments for a pocketbook or personal items; built-in flower vases; desk drawers with jewelry trays; a cup holder; and wrap-around doors to hide the computer when it’s not in use. Hutch doors have removable panels and curtain rods, which allow the units to be coordinated with the room’s color scheme. There’s a fabric-covered back panel on which to post notes or photos, and a stool/child’s desk to reach for things on top shelves or let small children work beside their mothers.
Yes, you can learn more about Ms. Popcorn’s designs (not to mention her books and her consultancy) at her Web sites (www.FaithPopcorn.com) and (www.BrainReserve.com).
No, you can’t order a desk from the site. Despite predicting that women want the convenience of online shopping, potential prospects are directed to the nearest retailer.
