Home Depot Dangles Chance to Train with Olympian

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Home Depot is giving one consumer a chance to train with one of 33 Olympians who work for the company.

Consumers have until Feb. 26 to sign up for The Home Depot Come Train With Me sweepstakes at Homedepot.com for a chance to win a three-day trip for two to the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO, or the Utah Olympic Park in Salt Lake City. As part of the prize, the winner will take part in a training session with one of 33 athletes, including speed skating champion Derek Parra, bobsledders Shauna Rohbock and Valerie Fleming, ice hockey star Jenny Potter and mogul skiing athlete Jillian Vogtli.

“We’ve been a sponsor of the Olympics since 1992 and we’re pretty embedded into the Olympic culture as anyone who follows the Olympic Games knows,” said Home Depot spokesman Eric Oberman. “A promotion like this is an opportunity for our customers to capture the thrill and excitement of the Olympics.”

More than 2,000 Home Depot stores will hang in-store banners announcing the company’s salute to its employee athletes. Cutouts of Olympians will also be placed throughout stores.

“We’re one of the most recognizable brands in all of Olympic sponsorship and we’ll continue to leverage that,” Oberman said. “We are the largest employer of Paralympic and Olympic athletes in the world.”

TV spots will support. Updates on medal count and journals written by athletes will be posted on the Home Depot Web site. Home Depot handles in-house.
