John H. Harland Co., Atlanta, reports first-quarter net income of $10 million. This is 65% higher than the first quarter of 1998, when the company reported net income of $6.1 million.
First-quarter revenues were $146 million, up slightly from $143.5 million a year earlier.
The improved results were attributed to better customer service and a continued reduction in the cost of manufacturing. “Improvements in our check operations drove earnings for the quarter,” said Timothy C. Tuff, president and CEO in a statement. “However, results from all business units were better than planned.”
