Geerlings Narrows Second Quarter Loss

Geerlings & Wade, Inc. reported a net loss of $1.4 million for the second quarter, an improvement over a net loss of $2.4 million last year.

The wine direct marketer reported sales of $6 million for the quarter ended June 30, off 3% from $6.2 million last year.

The Canton, MA company attributed these results to reduced marketing expenses.

Earlier this year, the company returned to prospecting after two years of mailing mostly to existing customers and is in the process of rolling out an aggressive year-long catalog and direct mail campaign in which it’s using e-mail, radio and TV for the first time (Direct, March 15).
