EMI Names New Head of Marketing for North America

Howard Handler has been named executive vice president and head of marketing for EMI Music in North America.

Effective Oct. 1, Handler will oversee artist marketing, advertising, publicity, promotion, video production, digital and tour marketing for artists on EMI Music’s North American labels, including Angel, Astralwerks, Blue Note, Capitol, Capitol Latin, Capitol Nashville, Manhattan and Virgin.

Prior to that, Handler was chief marketing officer for Virgin Mobile USA, the first mobile virtual network operator in the U.S. In that role, he led a marketing, sales, product development and customer relationship initiative that drove Virgin Mobile’s subscriber base from 300,000 to more than 5 million.

Before Virgin Mobile, Handler was vice president of marketing and fan development for the National Football League. Prior to that, he was senior vice president of marketing for MTV.

He also served as vice president of marketing at Broadway Video Entertainment.
