E-commerce Spending Projected to Hit $200 Billion This Year

Online consumer spending is projected to reach $200 billion by the end of 2007, according to comScore Inc., which monitors a cross section of 2 million consumers’ online browsing and transaction behaviors.

E-commerce spending increased 19% to $47.5 billion in the second quarter. The top selling product categories were video games, consoles and accessories; followed by sports and fitness and consumer electronics. Other big categories included jewelry, furniture and appliances; music, movies and videos; computer software, books and magazines.

Total e-commerce spending in 2006 reached $170.8 billion, according to comScore.
