The new service lets farmers market their crops and buy supplies from the same firms they usually deal with

Farm mechanization is taking another step forward, this time with online commerce between tillers of the soil and their suppliers.

Rooster.com, in business since last May as an agricultural information provider, is now trying to establish itself as a broad-based online marketplace for farmers as well as for farm equipment dealers, grain elevators, seed companies and other suppliers. The company says its new service will allow farmers to market their crops and buy seed, fertilizer, crop protection products, equipment and other items from the same businesses they currently work with.
