Michael Della Penna has apparently been let go as chief marketing officer of marketing services provider Epsilon’s e-mail marketing unit, according to sources in the industry who declined to be named.
The circumstances under which he left the company are unclear. Three Epsilon public relations executives failed to return calls and an e-mail asking for confirmation.
However, multiple well-connected sources claimed that Della Penna is no longer with Epsilon.
Della Penna has been an active participant in the e-mail marketing industry for almost as many years as e-mail has been a viable marketing channel. He has served on the Direct Marketing Association’s Interactive Marketing Advisory Board, and has chaired the DMA’s E-mail Marketing Council.
He was also second in command at Epsilon to Al DiGuido, who was let go from his job as CEO of Epsilon’s e-mail unit in 2006 after Epsilon acquired the company DiGuido headed, Bigfoot Interactive, and then online advertising concern DoubleClick’s e-mail unit.
The acquisitions reportedly resulted in culture clash between DoubleClick and Bigfoot executives, and an exodus of DoubleClick staffers.
DiGuido recently resurfaced in the industry as head of newly named marketing services firm Zeta Interactive.
