The Coca-Cola Co. will darken its famous Times Square billboard in New York City and the lights at its Atlanta headquarters in Atlanta this weekend to support Earth Hour.
Earth Hour encourages people around the world to turn off their lights for one hour on March 29 beginning at 8 p.m.
Coca-Cola will donate $2.5 million in advertising space—including its space on the Times Square billboard on March 28 and 29—and in movie theaters across the country. It will also turn off the large Coke sign in San Francisco near the bay bridge and non-essential lights at the New World of Coca-Cola Museum in Atlanta.
Earth Hour 2008 was created by the World Wildlife Fund to call attention to climate change. More than 30 cities around the world have signed on to support the event including Coca-Cola’s home town of Atlanta, Chicago, Phoenix and San Francisco.
