Charmin to Open Public Bathrooms in NYC

Call it a twist on sampling.

Procter & Gamble is opening a public restroom in New York City’s Times Square Monday where it is putting rolls of its Charmin Ultra toilet tissue to the ultimate test.

The 20-stall restroom can’t be missed by any of the millions of visitors to the area. A huge branded billboard that reads: “You’re in New York. Go in style.” Shows the word restrooms next to a large arrow pointing to the facilities. Attendants clean up after every use, The New York Times reported yesterday.

The event, which ends Dec. 31, will be open from 8 a.m. until 11 p.m. The stalls come with all the modern conveniences, including two that will be accessible for wheelchairs and baby changing stations, the report said.

The six-foot-tall Charmin bear will be on hand in a lounge area to take photos with visitors. Branded reps will hit the streets dressed as toilets to pass out information about the restrooms. The event will also be promoted at local airports.

Charmin has been in the public toilet business before, but not for long periods of time. The success of those events prompted the lengthy stay in New York, during one of its busiest times of the year, the report said.
