So much for independent research. In separate deals announced this month, Dutch media giant VNU NV acquired Nielsen Media Research, while London-based advertising biggie WPP Group bought Intelliquest Information Group, Inc. VNU will merge TV audience measurement house Nielsen, New York City, with its VNU USA subsidiary through a stock acquisition deal valued at $2.7 billion. WPP bought Intelliquest, Austin, TX, for $42.5 million and additional considerations. The IT and Internet information provider will be aligned with WPP’s Millward Brown information consultancy.
