Live From New Orleans: DMA Board Elects Several New Members
Several new members have been elected to the Direct Marketing Association Board of Directors.
They include: John Costello, executive vice president for merchandising and marketing for The Home Depot Inc.; George Ittner, president of The Territory Ahead; John Paolian, group president, publishing and retail services for R.R. Donnelley; and Michael Pepe, senior vice president for Dun & Bradstreet. Their terms start on Oct. 20.

Live From New Orleans: DMEF Raises $300,000
The Direct Marketing Educational Foundation raised $300,000 for DM training Saturday evening during its annual dinner. Some of the money was contributed by companies, the rest came from an auction of contributed products and services. Several firms promised to fund $5,000 scholarships

Isle of Capri Casinos Inc. has selected Harte-Hanks Inc. to assist with its IsleOne loyalty program. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Live From New Orleans: Cohorts to Launch Hispanic Product
Cohorts is introducing a new Hispanic household-based segmentation product today, Hispanic Cohorts. The offering features 19 unique customer segments within the American Hispanic community, including “Isabel” (successful career women who are highly integrated into American society ) and Domingo y Sylvia (modest income grandparents who still predominantly speak Spanish and feel loyalty towards Spanish advertising and media).

The Direct Marketing Association has created a council for hospitality marketers. The Hospitality Council will be jointly chaired by David Norton, senior vice president, relationship marketing for Harrah’s Entertainment and Mike Fitzpatrick, vice president, account services for Cohorts.

Most Computer Users Unaware of Spyware: Dell
Though more than 90% of computers in the U.S. have some form of spyware implanted in them, most users don’t know how to identify or combat the online menace, according to a survey from the Internet Education Foundation and Dell.

Traffix Posts Loss in Quarter
Traffix Inc. reported a net loss of $124,000 for the third quarter, down from net income of $662,000 last year.
The online database management firm reported net revenue of $10.2 million for the quarter ended Aug. 31, up 20% from $8.5 million last year.
Jeffrey L. Schwartz, CEO of the Pearl River, NY firm, attributed these results to costs associated with the acquisition of search engine marketing firm SendTraffic and the launch of an outbound telemarketing program.

Digitas Acquires Modem Media
Digitas Inc. has completed its acquisition of Modem Media Inc. Terms were not disclosed.
Modem Media, which retains its name, will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Digitas Inc.
