American Eagle Income Plummets

American Eagle Outfitters Inc. posted net income of $28.6 million for the second quarter, a decrease from $59.8 million last year.

The direct marketer and retailer reported sales of $657.6 million for the quarter ended Aug. 1, a 5% decrease from $688.8 million in the prior year.

The Pittsburgh company reported a 17% sales increase from AEO Direct, which includes ae.com, aerie.com, martinandosa.com, and 77kids.com during the quarter.

Management attributed this to increased traffic.
