AirTran Sweeps Goes Car Racing
AirTran Airways has teamed up with XM Satellite Radio and Andretti-Green Racing (AGR) for a sweeps that will give four racing fans the opportunity to experience the Indianapolis 500 on May 28.
Consumers enter the sweeps by visiting Airtran.com/indy. The promotion ends Monday.
One winner and three guests will visit the Indy 500 and go on a garage tour and to an AGR sponsor party where they’ll meet XM driver Bryan Herta. The prize includes hotel accommodations and air transportation.
“The goal for this promotion…is to build brand awareness,” said Judy Graham-Weaver, AirTran spokesperson. “We always want to drive people to our Web site. The sweepstakes was structured so that consumers can access the site and also become a member of our frequent flyer rewards program.”
The Orlando, FL-based airline began flying to the Indianapolis area in April 2005. The sweeps helps promote the new route, Graham-Weaver said.
AirTran is in its second year of sponsoring the AGR car racing team. Last year, the airline also partnered with XM Satellite Radio to offer travelers the radio service on its flights.

Last year, the airline teamed up with Wendy’s restaurants to promote its brand throughout the country. Through the Roundtrip Refreshment Program, coupons placed on cups at Wendy’s could be redeemed for free airfare. (PROMO XTRA, Dec. 21, 2005).
Five thousand airline tickets were given away by the airline during the two-month promotion, Graham-Weaver said.
