Frito-Lay Snacks Puts Virtual “FarmVille” Rewards on 5 Million Bags

Posted on by Patty Odell

In a marketing move to pull some of those avid online social gamers into brick and mortar stores, Frito-Lay Snacks has partnered with Zynga, the social game creator of popular online games "FarmVille," "CastleVille," "CityVille" and others, to reward players who purchase its products with various in-game virtual items that can be used for game play.

Players earn the items with the purchase of specially marked Frito-Lay snacks, including Lay's Classic potato chips, Doritos Nacho Cheese flavored tortilla chips, Ruffles Cheddar and Sour Cream flavored potato chips, Cheetos Crunchy cheese flavored snacks and Funyuns onion flavored rings.

The promotion, which began March 1 and ends April 12, is being featured on 5 million bags available at more than 3,400 Walmart stores nationwide. The on-pack codes can be redeeming on the participating game's Game Card redemption tab on Facebook.  Fans who redeem on-pack codes from four different specially marked Frito-Lay snack brands and a $15 or $25 Zynga Game Card in the same game will receive an exclusive super item.

Zynga has more than 240 million monthly active players.
