We Knew Them When

A new study by Opinion Research Corp. International, Princeton, NJ, on behalf of Priceline.com, finds that seven Internet “mega-brands” have reached household-name status.

They are, in order of best-known first, America Online, Yahoo!, Netscape, Amazon. com, Priceline.com, Infoseek and Excite. Reaching these exalted heights, according to the study, means achieving a projected awareness of more than 50 million, or better than one in four U.S. adults. The study says the names ring a bell not only with Webbies, but also with non-Internet users.

Opinion Research polled 1,013 adults by phone over a four-day period in mid-September.
