Wayfair to open second large physical store

Building on the success of its Chicagoland store, Wayfair announces it will open a large store in Atlanta in 2026.

Home furnishings giant Wayfair announced this week it plans to open its second large-format store in Atlanta in 2026.

The 150,000-square-foot store will sell offer a variety of styles across all of its home categories, including furniture, home decor, housewares, appliances and home improvement, according to the press release announcement.

The store builds on the success of its first large format physical store, which opened in May in Wilmette, Illinois, a suburb outside of Chicago. That store had a “wider halo uplift,” CEO Niraj Shah told investors in its Q4 2024 earnings call in February, according to a Seeking Alpha transcript

“The Wilmette store has delivered outstanding results, contributing to sales from the state of Illinois growing more than 15% faster than the U.S. overall, from the store launch through the end of 2024,” according to the press release.

The Wilmette store also spans 150,000 square feet, and is the largest of its physical stores. Wayfair also operates eight smaller physical stores for its brands Joss & Main, Birch Lane and All Modern. It plans to launch physical stores for its luxury brand Perigold later in 2025, Shah said.

The Atlanta store will have “many” items to purchase that day and take home. For large products, such as couches, the store is near one of its fulfillment centers, which will allow for fast delivery.

Wayfair generated $11.85 billion in revenue in 2024, which was a 1.3% year-over-year decrease from $12.00 billion in 2023. The brand took a $492 million loss for the year, compared with a $738 million loss in 2023.
