TXU Rewards Customers With Loyalty Program

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

TXU Energy launched a new rewards program for electricity customers, which offers merchandise and services, including DVD, luggage and property rentals, at discounted prices.

TXU Energy Rewards+ is an Internet-based program available to residential and small business TXU Energy customers in Texas. Each month, the rewards program lets customers accumulate credits or reward dollars. The reward dollars can be used on travel and merchandise items up to 45% lower than other Internet travel and shopping sites.

Customers can access the site by visiting TXU.com and track their balance online. The program, which is free to TXU customers, launched Feb. 1.

“We want to show our appreciation to all our customers for choosing us as their electricity provider and reward them for being valued customers,” said Jim Burke, senior VP-consumer markets for TXU Energy, in a statement. “Our customers are important to us, and this is another way of adding value to the service they receive from TXU Energy.”

Residential customers who signup for the rewards program will automatically receive 100 rewards collars. Customers will receive an additional 50 reward dollars each month thereafter. Similar offers are available to TXU Energy businesses.

The program, which is in a pilot stage, is gaining popularity, TXU spokesman Carlos Santos said. In addition to hotel rooms stays, condominium rentals and luggage, customers can redeem reward dollars for computer software, cruises, and soon flights, he added.

The rewards program isn’t dependant on the amount of electricity customers’ use.

Under the program, customers with 150 rewards dollars would save $48.40 on a $275 a night stay at the Hyatt Hotel in Hawaii. With the same rewards, customers would save $25.00 off a $54.95 Samsonite Detour 2 wheeled duffle bag.

“This is a way of getting out there in the market, to offer more to customers beyond electricity,” Santos said.

The program is open to TXU customers. TXU Energy Retail provides electricity and other services to more than $2.5 million customers in Texas. Its parent company, TXU Corp. is based in Dallas.
