Spanning the Globe

Six U.S. campaigns are among the potential winners of the Association of Promotion Marketing Agencies Worldwide’s 2001 Globe Awards, which will be announced this month at a gala ceremony in Palm Beach, FL.

The U.S. campaigns, which qualified for entry into the Globes by winning a category in PROMO’s annual PRO Awards competition, are vying against 45 other campaigns from 24 countries in four regions. It’s the second year APMA has sponsored the Globes.

Descriptions of the U.S. finalists, listed below, can be found beginning on page 43:

  • The History Channel (recognized as a finalist in the Best Multidiscipline Campaign category) for an in-house effort called Founding Fathers.
  • The Zipatoni Co. (Best Use of New Media) for the launch of Motorola’s V2397 phone.
  • DraftWorldwide (Best Activity Generating Brand Awareness and Trial) for Seize the Night, a campaign for M&M/Mars’ Milky Way Midnight brand.
  • WatersMolitor (also Best Activity Generating Brand Awareness and Trial) for Dunkin’ Donuts’ Bring a Bagel to Work Days.
  • Momentum (Best Business-to-Business Campaign) for Personality, an effort conducted for Boise Cascade Office Products.
  • Upshot (Best Retail Account-Specific Activity), for grl>lab, a strategic merchandising initiative for Procter & Gamble’s Cover Girl and drugstore chain CVS.

The winners will be unveiled Nov. 12 at a black-tie reception held as part of APMA’s annual fall meeting. In addition to announcing 16 “Best in Category” winners and a Gran Prix best overall campaign, APMA will make two special presentations: a Lifetime Achievement Award to Virgin Atlantic chairman Richard Branson for his leadership in the innovative marketing of a global brand, and induction of long-time Einson Freeman executive Jeffrey McElnea into the association’s Hall of Fame.

The Globes gala is part of a three-day conference that also features keynote presentations from former Coca-Cola marketing guru Sergio Zyman, now ceo of Zyman Marketing Group, who will speak on Brand and Core Essence; and George Drucker, ceo of international p.r. and marketing agency Ruder Finn, who will discuss Promotion and the Media. The agenda also includes case studies of winning Globes campaigns and a report on APMA’s annual financial benchmarking survey for agencies.

The conference and ceremony will be held at the Four Seasons Resort and Hotel. For more information, visit apmaw.org.
