DreamWorks SKG is going high tech to promote its new Woody Allen movie Match Point, streaming five video podcast interviews and satellite radio interviews before the film’s national opening this month.
Fans can download the podcastsdownloadable recordings consumers can listen to on a home computer, an iPod or other MP3 playerfor free at the Apple iTunes Music Store at iTunes.com. In the podcasts, Allen talks about the making of Match Point, what factors drew him to film in England and the challenges of making a film in today’s movie industry.
The promotion marks the first time a studio has developed video podcasts as part of a film’s overall marketing campaign.
In another first, Allen is returning to his radio roots under a deal with XM Satellite Radio. Fans can hear interview segments featuring Allen, movie clips and music through January 22. DreamWorks and the XM teamed up to produce a four-week series highlighting Allen’s career, including his latest Match Point film.
Allen recently earned Golden Globe nominations for Match Point in the Best Director and Best Screenplay categories. The film was also nominated for Best Picture-Drama, while cast member Scarlett Johansson is being considered in the Best Supporting Actress category.
Match Point tells the story of Chris Wilton, a young tennis instructor who becomes involved with a wealthy family and marries the sister of one of his students. Chris soon faces consequences when he becomes romantically involved with his new brother-in-law’s American fiancée. The film opens nationwide on Jan. 20.
