Mark Cuban Is Angry, Taking His Brands Away From Facebook

Posted on

Facebook logoMark Cuban, known for his ownership of the Dallas Mavericks and his appearance on “Shark Tank,” is frustrated with Facebook and is taking his businesses away from the social network. A couple weeks ago, he took a screen shot of an offer from Facebook to pay $3,000 in order to reach 1 million people. “FB is blowing it? This is the first step. The Mavs are considering moving to Tumblr or to new MySpace as primary site,” he tweeted. Cuban wasn’t joking: He’s pushing the Mavs and the approximately 70 companies in which he’s invested away from Facebook and toward Twitter, Tumblr and Myspace, all of which are “ready, willing and able to support brand activation without holding followers hostage for additional revenue.” Cuban lays out his gripes against Facebook in an email conversation, where he touches on how Facebook’s quest for revenue is devaluing brands’ followings and has changed the economics of consumer interaction; his optimism regarding Myspace; and Facebook’s overall design and strategy weakness.
