Google Wins September
As if there was any doubt, Google handily won the search “war” in September, according to figures released on Monday by Nielsen Online.
Google handled more than 4.8 billion queries in September, which translated to a 59.7 percent share of all searches conducted that month. This reflected year-over-year growth of 20.8 percent.
Yahoo! Search handled nearly 1.5 billion search queries in September, giving it an 18.1 percent share. This reflected a small year-over-year growth of 1.5 percent.
MSN/Windows Live Search was third with 953.5 million queries in September, giving it an 11.8 percent share. This reflected a year-over-year growth of 7.1 percent.
AOL Search was fourth with a 4.1 percent share, followed by Ask.com with a 2.2 percent share in September. AOL’s share of searches shrunk 24.6 percent since last year, while Ask.com’s grew 12.1 percent.
My Web Search (0.7 percent), Comcast Search (0.6 percent), AT&T Worldnet Search (0.4 percent), NexTag Search (0.2 percent) and Dogpile.com Search (0.2 percent) rounded out the top 10 list of search providers for September.
More than 8.1 billion searches were conducted in September, reflecting a 9.4 percent year-over-year growth.
