Google Punishes a Link Network That Bought and Sold PageRank-Passing Links

LinksIn what shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, Google has taken “action” against a link network comprising thousands of link sellers that bought and sold links that pass PageRank, according to Matt Cutts, head of the search engine’s Web spam team. This is a clear warning sign for companies that are buying links to pass PageRank.

Earlier this week, Cutts shared a video offering an overview of what to expect in the next few months in terms of SEO for Google. In that video, he mentions the company’s plans to go “upstream” to battle spammy links.

This is yet another reminder that buying links is a shortsighted strategy, one that should be replaced by link building
