Free Music Downloads Come with Pizza Hut Web Orders

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Hoping to strike up a marketing harmony among millennials, Pizza Hut is pushing online ordering with a free MP3 music download offer.

Anyone ordering online now through Dec. 27 receives 75 free eMusic.com MP3 downloads that can be played on any MP3 player, including iPod, iPhone and Zune. Customers can pick 25 free tunes from a special Pizza Hut playlist and 50 songs from eMusic’s 4-million song catalog as part of a 14-day free trial of the service.

The site offers 30 downloads each month for $11.99 for those who keep the service beyond the trial period.

“The same customers who order online from Pizzahut.com are also big fans of downloading music online, so the promotion is a natural fit,” said Bob Kraut, vice president of marketing communications for Pizza Hut, in a statement.

Pizza Hut recently surpassed $1 billion in online sales.

Online ordering is a feature that both Pizza Hut and Papa John’s have been looking to push in the past year. Both created widgets earlier this year, to facilitate ordering without visiting their respective Web sites. Late fall and winter are prime indoor seasons when consumers have a tendency to order out more frequently.

eMusic claims to be the largest Web service selling music exclusively in the MP3 format, boasting 200 million downloads since 2003.
