Cartoon Network has named Peter Dougherty as senior VP-branding, effective in early August.

In his newly created position, Dougherty is in charge of creating and building the Cartoon Network brand name and its multiple properties to target audiences in the U.S. His duties include overseeing the network’s on-air environment and franchise presentations; supervising in-house creative services for print, electronic and outdoor advertising and collateral and executing sponsored promotions, sweepstakes and contests and creative development for Cartoon Network Enterprises’ licensing and merchandising business.

Dougherty will be based in Atlanta and will report to Jim Samples, executive VP and general manager for Cartoon Network U.S.

Prior to joining Cartoon Network, Dougherty worked as an independent creative consultant on various projects, including Nickelodeon U.S. (Nicktoons), Nickelodeon Int’l (Europe and Asia), MTV and Nickelodeon Japan and Country Music Television (CMT). Before that, he worked 11 years at MTV Europe producing on-air campaigns, shorts and series (Yo! MTV Raps) before moving up the ranks to network creative director and senior VP.
