Boost Mobile Sets Loyalty Program to Music

Boost Mobile wants to win fans by improving their social lives.

The Sprint Nextel division has launched a loyalty program with a slate of perks that impresses teens—and their friends.

Boost V.I.P. Rewards lets members earn concert tickets, phone upgrades, exclusive content and cash.

The free program is open to all customers who use Boost’s Pay-As-You-Go and Premium Prepaid services, and has a low earning threshold. Members who spend more than $10 a month for three months in a row earn a 10% rebate, up to $30, that’s credited to their account.

That helps Boost Mobile build continuity, by encouraging users to keep funding their debit-style accounts.

“Our customers have told us that they would definitely use their Boost phone more and would be far more likely to immediately ‘re-boost’ their account in exchange for a 10% credit,” said Melissa Hilton, Boost Mobile’s director of customer base marketing, in a statement. The program “has the potential to greatly increase customer satisfaction while simultaneously raising our average revenue per user.”

Boost Mobile uses the V.I.P. program to deliver sweepstakes-style rewards, too. Ten V.I.P. members won backstage passes and special treatment at a Boost-hosted concert in Los Angeles. Other prizes on the V.I.P. roster include a trip to Las Vegas and special access to Hot Import Nights auto enthusiast shows.

The LA “payoff concert” was part of Boost’s 2-year-old RockCorps volunteerism program that gives members a concert ticket for every four hours of community service that they perform. Boost recruits volunteers for local non-profit groups. This year, the program is running in Los Angeles, Atlanta and New York, with plans to add 10 more cities. Cornerstone handles RockCorps.

Music is an overarching element in Boost Mobile’s marketing strategy. Its tie-ins and tagline, “Where You At?” aim to make the telecom service part of teens’ lifestyle.
